How to Strengthen Your Core and Lower Back
Dr Frank Lombardozzi recently had the opportunity to work with Martin Grube of Fire Rescue TV to produce a series of instructional fitness videos for firefighters. Fire Rescue TV is a digital signage network in fire stations broadcasting training videos, health and safety tips and new product information for firefighters. This is the first video, and it deals with strengthening and stabilizing your core and lower back.
You may not be a firefighter, or have to daily deal with handling heavy hoses, throwing ladders up against buildings, or even having to carry a fellow firefighter out of harm's way, but having a strong and stable core is something everyone should have. Working out to strengthen and stabilize your core not only helps with your lower back strength but can also help prevent future injuries.
I strongly encourage you to view this video and follow along with the exercises. These exercises were designed to be able to be done at home with ease, and just about everyone can do them. You don't need a lot of equipment, the only thing we used was an exercise ball. This is also something you can do with members of your family and your friends. If you like this video, you can recommend it to your friends and help them strengthen and stabilize their core as well.
