Living With Migraine Headaches
Chiropractic Care and Headaches

Lady planting flowersHeadaches are one of the most common symptoms that we see in our office. In fact, headaches are so common that many people forget to mention that they have them. They don’t mention headaches, either because they are so used to having them as a part of their daily life, or they think that headaches are, and I quote, “NORMAL.” I am here to tell you that headaches are not normal. Yes, they are very common, but definitely not normal.

A couple years ago, I met a young woman who came in who had migraine headaches since she was a young child. She had learned to live with them throughout the years and learned to be functional and productive as an adult. As you know, when people suffer from headaches, it is a lot more difficult for them to put the amount of focus and attention needed into different daily activities, tasks and even relationships. They often get inadequate amounts of rest and can be short and irritable interacting with others.

When this young woman came into our office, she also had a problem with lethargy as well as her migraine headaches. When I checked her spine for subluxations, which are misalignments that put pressure on nerves, I found that she had major misalignments at C1 and C2 (the top 2 vertebrae in the neck). I took x-rays of her neck and saw that she had a complete loss of her cervical lordosis. In fact, the curve in her neck was turned in the complete opposite direction of what it should have been. Instead of being shaped like a ‘C’ it was a ‘backwards C’. As a result, a lot of pressure and tension were put on the spinal cord resulting in her headaches and fatigue.

I started adjusting this young woman and correcting her subluxations and after the first 2 weeks of her care, her migraines and headaches were gone. She was also sleeping much better. Now, 2 years later she is on a wellness care plan and has had only a couple occasional headaches – she has had no migraines since starting care. She is much better at multitasking and has found that she has more energy to go out and enjoy activities like exercising and going to concerts.

Again, remember that headaches are not “normal.” If you know someone needlessly suffering from headaches, send them into our office. This is only one of hundreds and hundreds of headache success stories that we have had in our office.
