Lower Back Pain
Today we’re going to be talking about lower back pain. When you look at lower back pain, lower back pain is the result of some type of pressure, misalignment (subluxations), or some type of irritation to your nervous system. As chiropractors, our main focus is on your spine and nervous system. Your nervous system is made up of your brain, and your brain turns into your spinal cord which comes down through your spine, and the nerves come out in between the bones. As the nerves exit out, they come out and control and coordinate the function of everything in your body. If your nervous system is interfered with, it’s going to create pain. When you really look at pain, pain is not a bad thing, pain can actually be a good thing. Pain is your body’s way of telling you that something’s not functioning properly, that there is truly an underlying cause to your pain. So as chiropractors, our main focus, our main emphasis, is to truly find our what is the underlying cause of the lower back pain, and figure out what is exactly the best way to correct it, not hide it with pain medication.
Some Causes of Lower Back Pain
- Sitting all the time
- Working at a computer a lot
- Poor posture over a long period of time
- Doing a lot of lifting
- Past injuries
- Sports related injuries
- Different types of stress in your life
As you can see, there are quite a few potential causes of your lower back pain. Unfortunately a lot of people in our society take medications which will hide the problem, but it does not truly correct the underlying cause of the problem. So if you don’t correct the underlying cause of the problem, what will happen is the cause will get worse and worse, and then sometimes it gets to the point where you can’t correct it. And then people end up in surgery.
When lower back pain goes uncorrected, a lot of times people will start to experience problems with the nerves that come out of your lower back and run into your legs. Untreated lower back problems can cause people to experience things like pain that runs into their legs or numbness or tingling, as well as many other types of different problems. If your back pain is now causing pain, numbness, or tingling to start going down your legs too, please read our article on sciatica.
