What You Can Expect With Your First Adjustment

Dr. Lombardozzi consulting with patient on x-rayAt Kempsville Chiropractic, we will never make an initial adjustment without first making an accurate assessment of your condition. To understand what the underlying cause of your problem is, we will test reflexes, do sensory testing, and various orthopedic tests. Depending on your individual circumstance, we can do a full examination with orthopedic, neurological, chiropractic, and physical exam tests, as needed, to check and determine the underlying cause of your problem. If necessary we will take x-rays. An x-ray of the spine allows us to determine exactly what your spinal alignment looks like, see if there is any disc degeneration, as well as look to see if there is any osteoarthritis which can be effecting or putting pressure on the nerves.

Our office also employees the latest computerized technology to look at your nerves as they exit your spine and go to your muscles and internal organs.

  • Nerve scanSurface Electromyogram
A surface electromyogram measures the electrical energy that comes from your nerves as they exit out of the spine and go to the muscles.

  • Infrared Scan
The infrared scan that looks at the nerves as they come out and go to your organs. The infrared scan looks at the autonomic nervous system, the sympathetic system, and the parasympathetic system that controls your organs.

  • Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Test
The heart rate variability test looks at the space in-between the heartbeats. The space in-between the heartbeats should be variable — which is healthy. With some people, because of interference in their nervous system, the space between heart beats has become more static, which means that the body’s ability to adapt to internal stress has decreased.

Based on the results of your consultation and exams, we are now ready to make the necessary adjustments to relieve your pain and correct the source of your problem. Chiropractic adjustments are gentle corrections that move your spine back into proper alignment so you get relief from pain, and your body is allowed to heal.

What Happens Next?

After your first adjustment, your chiropractor will setup a schedule for any necessary follow up appointments. Chiropractic has 3 main phases of care: Correct, Restore & Maintain. The first phase it to correct the underlying cause of your problem. This leads directly to the second phase. Restoring the natural health, wellness, and function of your body. The third phase is using chiropractic care to maintain your spine and your health.

Many health conditions can be traced to lifestyle choices. Because of this, your doctor will also be advising you on the need for exercise, postural improvements, nutrition, stress management, rest, and other aspects of your health.

We have worked hard to provide a lot of good information on this website to help you understand how chiropractic care and your health are intertwined. We would encourage all our new patients to read our 3-part series of articles about Understanding Chiropractic Care and Your Health.
